Please help me test my app: proximity lock/unlock for the Mac using Android Wear.
7:50 PMEdit: It is a Mac/OS X application, not an Android Wear.
By measuring the quality of the Bluetooth signal from you AW watch, my program decides if you are far or close from your computer and either starts the screen saver (to lock it) or activates the login screen and types your password (to unlock).
It is called Umwelt and it is free for you to download, install and use. The instructions on how to install are here and here I explain how to pair your AW to the Mac. All I ask is for you to send me feedback either through the program itself or this page at my website. Please tell me: what do you think of the idea and the implementation? Does it work well with your smartwatch & Mac? Will you send me your (anonymous) configuration, through the "Send feedback..." option in the menu? What do you think would be a good enhancement?
IMO, there are 2 things that set this program apart from others:
I made it with smartwatches in mind. It tries to save battery as much as possible. Besides using Bluetooth LE it connects very briefly to the watch once every couple of seconds.
The biggest problem when measuring the quality of the Bluetooth signal is that it is very unstable. I handle this by making it very easy to adjust the threshold that defines if you are far or close. It is a control in the main menu.
It is free and all other options I know are not (ok, that's 3 things to set it apart).
I tested it with a LG G Watches. Please let me know if it works well with other watches too.
I am currently making a Windows 8/10 version. If you are interested please leave your email at this page.
