First of all, it seems to me that the song name would be a more useful choice. Often I listen to an album straight through; I put the album on, so clearly I know who the artist is but I might not know the names of all the tracks.

But second, at the very least it seems like having the choice of what shows would be the obvious option. That way, if someone else finds the artist to be the most useful info, they could choose to keep it that way.
