Watchfaces minute hand micro-ticks rant
2:41 PMI've been noticing that most Android Wear watchfaces has no the minute hand micro-ticks. It's the same as the hour hand, slightly moving to the next number every minute passes, which is why the hour hand is between 8 and 9 when it's 8:30. Minute hand does the same too, moving on every second, and many developers have been missing this important detail analogue traditional watches have.
The scale of the problem? The top Facer watchfaces in Facerepo does this wrong. The "get more watch faces" button in Android Wear app contains lots of analogue watchfaces that doesn't have minute hand micro-ticks. To name a few, Planets, Chronos Time Master, Golden Beauty, Google's Street Art watch face. Yes, Google even doesn't have this on their watchfaces and their sample library demonstrating how to make watchfaces. Ridiculous. Fortunately Moto 360 preloaded watchfaces have them, even on their promo page.
So here's a plea. Watchface developers on Reddit, please appreciate this detail and implement it on your watchfaces. It only needs an additional calculation on the minute hand rotation. If you're a Facer user, use #DWFMS instead of #DWFM, which doesn't add additional strain to your battery life if your second hand ticks every second instead of sweeping. If you're a WatchMaker user, you're doing fine, WatchMaker has you covered.
So yeah, that's it from me. This post is basically a Reddit-personalized version of a longer post I made here. Thanks for reading.
